HEIRLOOM SEEDS
I have gardened for 40 years. we never bought tomatoes, green beans, squash, etc. at the grocery store. We had them in the garden or canned in the cellar.
We produce heirloom seed kits that will keep over 50 years, (stored in the freezer) with vigorous germination. Our seeds are all heirlooms, so you can harvest and save your own seed year after year. You never need to buy seed again. Spring BLOWOUT SPECIAL ON SEED KITS!! Click here. Limited time only!
Now you can feel secure, knowing that when you want to plant a garden, you WILL have the heirloom seeds that will grow and produce in your area. We chose varieties that have been grown by our grandparents and great grandparents, all across the country. They were common seed. This told us they were strong survivors under many various conditions. That is what made them popular.
Heirloom Seeds
Order one of our three heirloom seed kits now, while supplies are still available. Store them in the freezer. Open whenever you want and plant seeds that germinate as if they were harvested only last year.
Bonus resources for learning how to grow and save your heirloom garden seeds!
With all of our heirloom seeds orders, we include a little book titled, Growing Garden Seeds, by Robert Johnston, Jr. of Johnny’s Selected Seeds. He has written it for the home vegetable gardener and small farmer. This excellent little book contains basic information for growing and harvesting the non-hybrid seeds for most vegetables is in this book. It is not too academic or technical. It covers the flowering, pollination, (what crosses with what,) culture for seed, harvest and threshing for each vegetable.
Vegetable Growers Handbook – Garden book included in the two larger 50 year long term storage kits. The Vegetable Growers Handbook by Frank Tozer covers everything you need to know about cultivating all the common vegetable crops. It covers planning, soil preparation, where and when to plant, raising transplants, direct sowing, fertilizing, watering, weeding, pest control, harvesting, open-pollinated seed saving, storage, and cooking. It is 8 1/2 x 11″ and over 200 pages. No color pictures, but lots of very readable information.
This book is NOT included in the Basic Seed Kit. It can be purchased for $23.00.

what about wheat, and other types of grain in your long term storage?
03.14.12 at 3:08 pm
We do not include wheat and other grains because they are quite labor intensive for the production you get from them. To grow and harvest wheat without machinery is more than most people would do. I think dry beans, potatoes, and corn are much more productive when raising them by hand. Thanks for the question.

Having a store of Heirloom seeds is one of the items we are working on right now for our gardens. We are also turning our compost over while not using it for at least three years. We cover it up so that no other seeds may blow into our piles to prevent other plants from growing unexpectedly, because they are usually weeds. Except, my wife does like dandelion greens.
What if your freezer quits and the seeds are thawed. have you ever re-froze them?
04.04.12 at 9:38 pm
Yes, I have refroze my own personal seed. I did not notice any decrease in germination. But officially, I cannot recommend that. After they are thawed, it is best to store them in the refrigerator. But I save alot of seed and our fridge space is valuable. For good germination, keep seeds very dry and very cold!

Are any of your seeds genetically altered or hybrids of any kind?
04.06.12 at 8:11 pm
None of our seeds are genetically altered; neither are any of them hybrids. They are all open pollinated, non-hybrid seed. Heirloom seed basically means the same thing, only heirlooms generally have been around a few more years. These are all varieties that have been grown all across this country for many, many years. That is why we chose them. They are proven by their performance over many years.
